What is the Readership of Hindu Newspaper ?

The Hindu was founded as a weekly newspaper in the year 1878, and it became a daily newspaper in the year 1889. As of today, the newspaper is owned and published by The Hindu Group, which is one of India's most respected and popularly known media companies. The Hindu is a prestigious English language newspaper in India. It is one of the most recognisable names in the Indian English language news media space and it is renowned for its excellent journalism and reporting, as well as its high standard of English. The newspaper commands a large, loyal and engaged readership across the country, and has a daily circulation of more than 14,00,000 copies (as of December 2019, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations), catering to a total readership of well over 62,00,000 people across the country, according to the Indian Readership Survey of the first quarter of 2019. Readership figures are significantly higher than circulation figures because it is assumed that a single issue of a newspaper is typically read by more than one person.

Calculation

How is the Circulation Measured of Hindu Newspaper?

The Hindu is a prestigious English language news publication. Its popularity across the country for its standards of journalism and news reporting as well as the richness and diversity of its content makes it a newspaper with a large circulation. The Audit Bureau of Circulations of India is the organisation that conducts certifications and audits of circulation figures of the country's major publications, including newspapers and magazines. Circulation figures help newspapers and magazines determine the cost of advertising. The term 'circulation' refers to the total number of copies of a newspaper or magazine that are distributed on average per day. The circulation figure includes paid circulation (i.e. copies of the publication that have been purchased) as well as free circulation (i.e. copies of the publication that have been distributed free of charge). This figure is important because it helps advertisers decide which newspapers or magazines to place their advertisements in.

Reasons

What are the Auditory Bodies Which Report on readership figures?

In India, the National Readership Survey (NRS) and the Indian Readership Survey (IRS), which have been the two primary readership surveys in the country, have come together to form the Readership Studies Council of India (RSCI) after the Media Research Users Council adopted the proposal to do so during its annual general meeting in September 2011. The erstwhile National Readership Survey was a survey of all media but with a focus on print media, and it was conducted by the National Readership Survey Council, which consisted of members from the Indian Newspaper Society (INS), the Advertising Associations of India (AAI) and the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC). The Indian Readership Survey, as of today, is the largest continuous readership research study in the world. Its annual sample size exceeds 2,56,000 respondents, and it is conducted by the Media Research Users Council and the Readership Studies Council of India (RSCI).
